Sony announces a rental system for those not wanting to buy the HDD and Network Adaptor.

Peripherals have had a notoriously tough time in the videogames world, bad memories of the Mega-CD, 32X and 64DD to name but a few. Many were claiming that the same problems would face Sony with the introduction of the PS2’ HDD and Network Adaptor, however in a smart move SCEJ today announced a rental system. Japanese gamers not wanting to fork out the full £95 can rent the add-ons from Sony for £8 per month for the first year, and £2.60 per month thereafter.

The units remain the sole property of Sony, however come with a life term guarantee. The move is likely to get more units into households rather then just selling them on shop shelves.

Hopefully a similar system will be announced in Europe & the US.
This is their peak because of MGS4, Halo 3 did the same thing but in much larger numbers. 360 has a sick holiday lineup and they will cut the price by a hundred bucks. Then theres the new Xbox Live with Netflix and possibly a FREE Xbox Live by then. Resistance isn't enough to stop it.
