With the first move made by Nintendo, a bitter price wars always seemed inevitable. Having seen Microsoft put their hopes on the strengths of an Xbox bundle that is unlikely to impress, SCEE today confirmed an official UK price-drop for the Playstation2.<br><br>As of October 1st, the Playstation2 will be reduced to £139.99 and alongside SCEE will release a limited edition ‘satin silver’ Playstatation2 for £149.99. The ‘satin silver’ model is based on the improved SCPH-50000 model announced back in April, and features the ability to playback DVD-R/DVD-RW, a built-in IR receiver and runs approximately 30% quieter then previous models.<br><br>Ray Maguire, Managing Director of SCE UK commenting on the move said, <br><br>“With this attractive new price point, with PlayStation 2’s unbeatable technology package, compelling on-line experiences, and with a vast portfolio of over 850 software titles including mass market appeal titles such as EyeToy: Groove and Dog’s Life, we believe there has never been a better time to enter the PlayStation 2 experience.”<br> <br>“At this new price point of £139.99, the clear market leading PlayStation 2 should remain the computer entertainment system of choice for an even wider and more diverse audience.”<br>
