Sony announces a price cut in Europe and puts pressure on Microsoft to follow suit...
Sony today announced plans to drop the price of the Playstation2 in Europe, from £199.99 to £169.99 (250 euros) in order to give the machine a further boost in the run up to Christmas and put pressure on both Microsoft and Nintendo. The cut is effective from midnight on August 31st. <br /> <br /> Having already sold 8.25 million consoles in PAL territories, the latest forecast from SCEE suggest a PAL installed user base of 14 million before the year-end. With the likes of Grand Theft Auto: Vice City due for release soon, it looks to be a very good Christmas for Sony. <br /> <br /> The move puts pressure on Microsoft to follow suit, the Xbox price has been the subject of much speculation recently, and it’s believed that Microsoft will now follow suit or reduce the cost to as low as £149.99 to counteract the move. <br />

This is their peak because of MGS4, Halo 3 did the same thing but in much larger numbers. 360 has a sick holiday lineup and they will cut the price by a hundred bucks. Then theres the new Xbox Live with Netflix and possibly a FREE Xbox Live by then. Resistance isn't enough to stop it.
