SCEA release sales figures for the Broadband Kit in America.

After lacklustre sales in Japan, the Playstation2 Broadband Kit is fairing slightly better in the US after its release in August. SCEA today announced that 200,000 Network Adaptors have been sold, however they’ll have to shift a lot more over the Christmas period if they want to meet their sales estimates of 400,000 by the end of the year.

Interestingly, of the 200,000 sold, 57% are using the broadband connection, whilst 43% are still using the dial-up 56k connection. When the peripheral is released in Europe it will only have the Broadband function.

It does appear that Sony is having troubles convincing gamers about the merits of online games, and with Xbox Live! still relatively in its infancy, it’s looking like we’ll have to wait for a considerable time before the online revolution takes off.

Sony and Microsoft both plan to launch online services in Europe during Spring 2003, however it’s unlikely that this territory will show even less interest then America and Japan, which could leave both of the companies with a lot of egg to clean off their faces.
This is their peak because of MGS4, Halo 3 did the same thing but in much larger numbers. 360 has a sick holiday lineup and they will cut the price by a hundred bucks. Then theres the new Xbox Live with Netflix and possibly a FREE Xbox Live by then. Resistance isn't enough to stop it.
