Sony's PSPgo console finds itself in hot water after UK retailers drop its price and report slow sales...

Despite assurances from Sony that sales of the PSPgo are in line with its expectations, UK retailers have already started to drop their asking price for the handheld while one outlet is reporting slow sales of the console in its first week on the market after it launched on October 1st.

Although Sony has set a £224.99 RRP for the PSPgo, retailers including Amazon, Play, Game, and HMV have already knocked that price down to £199.99. We can confirm via a Google cache that at least one of these retailers was selling the system at £224.99 a week ago.

To make matters worse, online retailer ShopTo has expressed concern at what it considers to be slow initial sales for the handheld console. Unlike the retailers mentioned above, ShopTo has chosen to price the PSPgo at its RRP for the time being.

"PSPgo has seen a slow start for ShopTo and we have kept stock quite tight in consideration. We remained at the RRP for PSPgo so that we can achieve the maximum margin considering that there will be no further software sales for this format for us as an e-tailer," said ShopTo's CEO, Igor Cipolletta.

One of the key problems facing Sony is the PSPgo's lack of physical software, which makes retailers unable to incorporate bundled deals into their PSPgo packages. "Not being able to bundle the PSPgo with physical software or accessories means that the consumer offer is standard and then price becomes the key issue," Cipolletta explained.

not being funny, but even the saddest, most devout of fanboys isn't going to pay out all that money for a handheld that doesn't allow them to use their old games.

oh well good old sony fu.ck.s up its rrp on one console while making a good choice on another, the ps3's price is very good considering the fact that to get an xbox 360 elite and bluray player will cost over £300 compared to a ps3 which has one built in (for those that diddnt know) for £250.

i think sony are going to get a few sales from gadget freaks and a few curious people stupid enough to pay £225 for the psp go other wise like most people will still look for the psp 3000 or older handhelds and just buy bigger memory cards from play . com or try rival hand helds from nintendo like the ds and the dsi.

ps3 is okay price, but this is just stupid. Seriously, people will just be like "hmm, this or the new ps3 which is only £25 more" and it's obvious it'll be the ps3. Until Sony brings this down to £160ish, hardly anyone will buy. Even with the "free" gran turismo it probably won't be attractive. Normal PSP Gran Turismo = £150ish roughly.

Definitely, because there's not actually much more new technology in it other than a sliding screen and more hard drive space. Sony shouldn't be charging £45 more for this four years down the line.

Prolly yes, but still the price is just silly compared to PS3 slim, its just all sorts of wrong! lol

Considering how long the PSP has been out and the current climate (recession' n all) PSPgo! should be around 180 or there abouts.
