Sony's long-rumoured PlayStation Phone seemingly emerges in a bunch of leaked images and system specs...
Its existence has been rumoured for years but now Sony's PlayStation Phone appears to have finally been exposed to daylight through some leaked images and early indications towards the phone's system specs.
Engadget is reporting that the phone (pictured right) features a touchpad in the centre of the console, which sounds very similar to the sort of technology rumoured for Sony's alleged PSP2 handheld.
Some early indications of the PlayStation Phone's hardware specs have also emerged, with suggestions of a 1GHz processor, 512MB of RAM, and 1GB of ROM with a screen that's said to be in the range of 3.7 and 4.1 inches wide.
The phone is a Sony Ericsson product so don't expect too many similarities with Sony's existing PSP handheld device. Suggestions that it runs through a Google Android operating system appear to back-up these claims.
Nonetheless, there's apparently a Sony Marketplace readied for the device that will allow users to download games for the phone.
Update: Sony Computer Entertainment Europe has now rubbished the images, telling NowGamer that "These images are definitely fake". Sony Ericsson was unprepared to comment on "rumour and speculation".
We can't imagine Sony saying that the images are "definitely fake" unless they mean it. It's not a vague denial that the company can wriggle out of at a later date, so you're probably best of treating the images with a man-sized handful of salt at this stage.
Update 2: Engadget has issued a comeback to Sony's response. The publication asserts that the PlayStation Phone "has been confirmed through multiple, trusted sources," and that some of these sources are "closely connected to the project". More info on the phone has also been dropped, including its codename, 'Zeus' and that it runs the 2.X version of Google Android.
