Gaming PCs featuring the Commodore brand set to make an appearance at CeBit later in the month...

Many older gamers out there will fondly recall the Commodore64. Although we might have claimed it was for school, the real reason behind getting one was the games - classics such as The Last Ninja, The Sentinel and many more.

It's clash against the Sinclair Spectrum was the first real "battle" between two giants vying for power, in a market significantly smaller then the videogames industry of today. Nevertheless, without both we certainly wouldn't be in the same position we're in now - many of the developers creating Xbox 360, PlayStation3 and Wii titles honed their skills creating homebrew games for the popular 8-bit formats.

Commodore continued their success into the 16-bit computer market with the Amiga, dominating over Atari's ST effort; but then things changed. A reminder that no manufacturer has enjoyed three generations in pole position, the release of the CD32 in 1993 kickstarted a fall for Commodore, who promptly filed for bankruptcy in the following year.

Despite efforts to resurrect the brand, The "Curse of Commodore" thwarted many efforts and led to further bankruptcies, until today. Confirming that a new range of gaming PC's featuring the Commodore brand will make an appearance at CeBit 2007, Commodore Gaming promise further "exciting" announcements surrounding the product that have yet to be revealed.

Bala Keilman, CEO for Commodore Gaming, commented "25 years ago, Commodore launched the best selling personal computer of the late 20th Century, the C64, and defined the early computer games experience for millions of people worldwide. We are privileged and excited to bring the Commodore brand back to the gaming community and mark a new chapter in its history with this exceptional machine. We're sure that it will deliver what gamers need and want."

Curious, is that a typo?

"As a publisher, no one is more excited to see the continued growth and evolution of Games for Windows - LIVE than Microsoft Game Studios,"

Should surley read as.

"As a publisher, no one is excited to see the continued growth and evolution of Games for Windows - LIVE than Microsoft Game Studios,"

Actually Commodore is indeed a group of people with the name, but unlike previous restarts, this small group actually does pay tribute to the old c64 heritage they hold C64 parties and contests (demo's) and do work with the old enthausiasts. from what I've seen its a small group who really are going for it and i wish them luck

The Spec on the system will make any game run at full setting with ease but the price tag has got to be in the $4000 range,

Hey anonymous that supposedly attended a trade show in the 80's: You haven't learned how to type, spell, or use better grammar in 20 years? And we're supposed to get something out of that garbage post? Plus, you DO realize that Commodore is, and has been for a long time now, a name. And that's all. The name has been passed around a little bit, but none of the same people run anything Commodore related. Any new Commodore we see will be in name only. Like Atari.
