Iconic videogame character prepares to make an appearance on the DS...
Nintendo has today revealed details about itâ??s forthcoming DS update of iconic character Pac-Man, PAC-PIX, which is set for a UK launch on May 20th 2005. The core gameplay may be similar to the classic title, but PAC-PIX will also utilise some of the DSâ?? functionality, most notably the touch screen.
Using the DSâ?? stylus, gamers have to draw their own Pac-Man in order to vanquish the ghosts, with smaller drawn Pac-Men moving a lot faster than their larger counterparts. Players will also have the ability to create weapons for their creative masterpiece to use including arrows and bombs, making the old reliance on ghost chomping pills seemingly redundant.
PAC-PIX does throw in some alterations to the format with ghosts having different skills - for instance some can only be killed if attacked from a certain direction whilst others just move a lot quicker! PAC-PIX does include a basic â??storylineâ??, which sees the ghosts overrun books and paintings leaving Pac-Man and his magic pen to lock the ghosts up into one book forever.
Whether the franchise will re-discover a new lease of life will of course have to be seen over time. Weâ??ll have more soon...
