Nintendo UK has today announced that itâs DS handheld console has sold over 200,000 units in the six weeks since launch, emulating the initial success of the system in both the US and Japan.
Currently the two most popular titles for the DS has proved to be Super Mario 64 DS and WarioWare Touched!, although todayâs news also includes a list of some of the titles that are to be released in the next few months on the format which include:
- Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith â“ May 5th
- PAC-PIX â“ May 20th
- Need for Speed Underground 2 â“ May 27th
- Ridge Racers DS â“ June 3rd
- Another Code: Two Memories â“ June 24th
- Madagascar â“ June 24th
- Goldeneye: Rogue Agent â“ July 1st
- Space Invaders Revolution â“ Q2 2005
- Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory â“ Q3 2005
Other titles set for release on the DS during the course of 2005 include the likes of Mario Kart DS, Metroid Prime Hunters, Advance Wars DS, and Nintendogs from Nintendo. EA will be releasing The Sims 2, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, and Need for Speed Most Wanted, whilst Konami will be debuting Castlevania DS.
Announcing the David Yarnton, General Manager at Nintendo UK said, âThe launch of Nintendo DS in the UK continues to be an unprecedented success; Gamers new and old have embraced the Nintendo DS and have left no doubt that it is the new must have handheld console! Nintendo set out to create a new way of hand-held gaming, offering an innovative and enjoyable experience and with the new Nintendo DS, and we have certainly accomplished this.â
James Honeywell, UK Product Manager for Handheld Consoles commented, âWe are extremely pleased with the success of the Nintendo DS and will continue to watch with excitement as it fulfils its obviously huge potential. It is great to see that British gamers, like their Japanese and American counterparts, can recognise a revolutionary new console when they see it!â
