Outcast 2: The Lost Paradise - New Screens News

By Chris Leyton on 01/01/1970

This game continues to amaze with its outstanding visuals. TVG cannot wait for this one.

Outcast 2 developers, Appeal, recently sent us a second set of pictures from the upcoming sequel.

The set has been used to showcase the graphic engines (Himalaya) complex multi-pass character rendering which includes diffuse, specular and environmental mapping. Himalaya also supports multiple weight skinning and channel compression for smooth animation and deformations.

Cutter Slade has received a bit of a make over in the polygon department, thanks to the power of the vector units (PS2) and hardware T&L (PC), Cutter now features around 4500 triangles (12000 rendered) compared with the original 850 in Outcast1. The number of bones have also raised dramatically going from 23 in Outcast1 to 78 in Outcast2.

This allows Cutter to move each finger independantly, each shoulder separately, and even manipulate every muscle of his face, thus enabling to convey subtle expression and perfect lip-syncing during in-game cinematics and dialogs.
