Famitsu article confirms that the DS outing is a full blown sequel...

Following an appearance in the latest issue of Famitsu further details on Okamiden - or Okamiden: Chisaki Taiyou to give its full title - have come to light.

The DS outing is a full-blown sequel to the critically-acclaimed yet commercial failure PS2/Wii title, and not an adaptation as first believed.  The sequel takes place barely months after the events of the original, but features a new protagonist going by the name of Chibiterasu.

Familiar faces such as Issun and Sakuya will make an appearance, although the article makes a reference to Susano's son Kuninushi - exactly how this all takes place within a matter of months is anybody's guess for the time being!

Further details suggest a greater emphasis will be placed on co-operation with those that sit atop Chiberasu, with an example depicting player's using the Celestial Brush to draw a different path for the partner to take while Chiberasu walks along a rickety bridge.

Thanks to Siliconera for the details.
