Lorne Lanning sheds some details on the next Oddowlrd game and takes a swipe at those who maoned about the last one...

Despite making a brief appearance on a Discovery Channel documentary earlier in the year, details on the next Oddworld title have been surprisingly sparse.

Thankfully Oddworld Inhabitants CEO Lorne Lanning recently conducted a revealing interview that shed further light on the title.

The lack of information seems to stem from the criticism given to ‘Munch’s Oddyssey’, claiming that over-hyping the game led to disappointment amongst gamers. Lanning then launched into an attack against journalists who criticised the game because it didn’t live up to expectations:

“To give a game a lower score because the reviewer expected something different is totally lame and we will not allow this to happen on our new game. This game will be fresh, there will not be years of previous hype expectations built up, and when it releases it will be judged on the merit of how good it is. Not on how well it compared to the hype.”

Moving onto actual details of the game, Lanning claimed that the new title isn’t part of the original Oddworld Quintology but that it does take place on the Oddworld landscape.

It appears that the game will take place in the same timeline but focus on an entirely new cast of characters with different issues and play styles. To this extent Oddworld Inhabitants have developed an entirely new engine to power the game, one that they hope will power a wider range of games for 2004.

To read the entertaining interview in its entirety please click the link.
