SEGA puts the final nail in the coffin of Obsidian's Aliens RPG after a long period of uncertainty for the project...
Even though Obsidian announced last month that it had ceased development on SEGA's Aliens RPG, there was still a slither of hope for the title. Without official word from SEGA, there was no way of knowing whether the publisher had moved the project on to another developer.
However, SEGA has now released official word on the game and, regrettably, it's not going to please Aliens fans:
"At this point, SEGA has no plans to move forward with the Aliens RPG," a SEGA spokesperson told TVG. "The Aliens franchise offers us so much content to choose from that we feel it important to take a step back and carefully consider the type of game we want to release. We plan to continue working with the Aliens franchise and ask fans to be patient and stay tuned for more information about what SEGA has coming out for the Aliens series of games, starting with the upcoming Alien vs. Predator game. We are very excited about and focused on Alien vs. Predator, which promises gamers a fantastic single player game and an equally compelling multiplayer experience. We are confident that it provides all the excitement and fun that the Aliens and Predator fans are looking for."
As well as Rebellion's Aliens vs. Predator game, Gearbox is still hard at work on Aliens: Colonial Marines for SEGA according to the publisher's latest update on the series, so it looks like there are still a couple of facehuggers on the way at least.
