SEGA Confirms Obsidian For Alien News
Feargus Urquhart's RPG specialists are confirmed as developers for one of SEGA's Alien titles...now, where's Gearbox's confirmation...
By Jon WilcoxPosted: 13/12/2006
SEGA of America and SEGA Europe have today confirmed Obsidian Entertainment as the developer of one of the recently announced Alien titles. Obsidian's most recent release was Neverwinter Nights 2 for Atari, and has previously developed Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II - The Sith Lords for LucasArts.
"With Obsidian Entertainment's development pedigree, they were our first choice to bring the Alien franchise to the RPG universe," said Simon Jeffery, President and COO, SEGA of America, Inc. "They are the only developer for us that could effectively combine the Alien mythology with compelling RPG gameplay to create the ultimate Alien experience."
"We are thrilled to be working with the great production and publishing teams at SEGA to deliver the ultimate in-depth Alien experience to gamers worldwide," said Feargus Urquhart, CEO of Obsidian Entertainment. "Building an epic RPG with a license as heralded as the Alien franchise is truly a great honor."
Confirmation of Obsidian's role in producing one of the titles comes a day after the European Alien site featured both Obsidian and Gearbox Software on the disclaimer at the bottom of the screen. Gearbox is yet to be confirmed as developer of the second Alien title by SEGA.
The first Alien title is expected to be released in 2009.

I think you may be getting confused with Aliens: Colonial Marines. When SEGA announced the Aliens license they confirmed two games:
An FPS from Gearbox named Aliens: Colonial Marines and an Aliens RPG from Obsidian Entertainment.
It's all gone very murky on both titles and in the meantime SEGA announced Aliens vs Predator with Rebellion, which will be coming out early next year.
We have no reason to doubt Gearbox's title will appear at some point - although at this precise time the only one that is certain is the AvP game from Rebellion.

I'm very disappointed in SEGa cacelling this game when it was going to be finished and released around Feburary of next year. They were doing so good with it, I was really looking forward to buy it and they threw it away as if they knew it was a failure. I don't know why they were calling it a RPG, cause it was in First person view from what I've seen.

I'm glad they cancelled the RPG - an RPG could never really work for Aliens.

Are you kidding me? I still play the first AVP game, it is the greatest rendition of all the aliens games combimed... except maybe the side scrolling avp game in an arcade machine.... Xbox360 version of the original AVP would be one of the best things ever to happen.

This will be awsome if they don't screw up the original horror theme of the films

I remember the old PC game, Alien vs Predator where you could play as either an Alien, Predator or Marine. Great game in its day. Would be great to see that updated for the 360!
