DS title provides gamers with a sense of responsibility according to relationship psychologist...
With the European release of Nintendogs less than eight weeks away on October 7th, Nintendo has today announced the thoughts of relationship psychologist Susan Quilliam following her review on the effects of the virtual puppies on people. According to the review the puppies â??â?¦the game teaches us how to bond and provides us with a sense of nurture and responsibilityâ?¦it can also have emotional effects, helping to raise self-esteem and develop strategic thinking.â?
During the course of the review a survey was conducted, which enquired about the positive benefits of a virtual pet with the results as follows:
- 43% - lower vet bills
- 39% - they wouldn't have to go for a daily walk
- 35% - it [a virtual pet] would be tidier
The prospect of a tidy house, no vets bills, and a lack of â??walkiesâ?? are sure to be positive aspects for gamers and parents scared of being lumbered with their childrenâ??s pets alike this October, although whether the game actually creates a sense of responsibility in the player will have to be seen. We just remember starving our Tamagotchi back in the 1990s but at least the pups in Nintendogs canâ??t die.
Weâ??ll have more news shortlyâ?¦
