Continued depreciation of the pound forces Nintendo to increase the Wii's trade price...
The trade price retailers and distributors pay for the Nintendo Wii is set to increase, according to a report from MCV, leading to smaller profit margins on the popular console.
Nintendo attributes the decision due to the continuing depreciation of the pound, but has suggested that the move will not increase the Wii's RRP of £179.99.
MCV suggests that retailers will have to pay an extra £16.50 per Wii unit, or approximately £19 including VAT, leading to the possibility that retailers will make virtually no profit when selling the Wii if they stick to the RRP.
"The price that they then offer to consumers is, of course, up to the retailers. We are only - reluctantly - raising our trade price now to retailers due to unprecedented and sustained depreciation of the pound. This is a problem brought about by extreme currency fluctuations that are a symptom of the global economic situation," a Nintendo UK spokesperson told the industry trade magazine.

Just outputting to HD won't be enough - there will have to be increases to the Wii's GPU and memory to make the visuals look sufficiently better. the Wii HD is just a pipedream invented by an anlyst that doesn't actually get that many things right...
