Nintendo announces the rumoured price cut and Wii Sports Resort bundle for its home console...

True to the many rumours that have been floating around in recent weeks, Nintendo has confirmed a UK price cut to its Wii console and introduced a new bundle including Wii Sports Resort and the MotionPlus accessory as of October 2nd.

"We will be reducing the trade price of Wii to retailers from 2nd October 2009. In the UK and Republic of Ireland we are also introducing a new configuration of Wii hardware from 2nd October 2009 which will replace the current offering and will include the Wii console and Wii Sports with the new Wii Sports Resort game and Wii MotionPlus accessory," Nintendo said in a statement. "This will be available to retailers at the newly reduced trade price. The ultimate price to consumers is, of course, determined by the retailers. Our aim has always been to expand the gaming population and there are still many more people out there who have not yet experienced the fun of video games. This compelling offer will hopefully make Wii more accessible to everyone."

This follows Nintendo's confirmation at TGS today of a price cut in the US from $249.99 to $199.99, which had also been heavily rumoured recently. However, this US retail SKU will not include the bundled Wii Sports Resort and MotionPlus peripheral.

Although the Wii's UK RRP had risen from £179.99 to £199.99 earlier this year, many retailers had continued to sell the console at or around the original £179.99 price point.

While Nintendo has not confirmed an RRP for the new bundle, industry speculation has indicated that Nintendo will suggest a £179.99 RPP for it, meaning that gamers will not see a huge cost reduction in practice although the bundle does represent a significant increase in value.

Surely, if that's the case, it would be the 'perfect' venue for the vitality Sensor.

I think it's more to do witht he fact that Nintendo correctly identified E3 as being largely about core games.  They didn't want the Vitality sensor to get the same reaction as Wii Music did when Miyamoto unveiled it.

Either that or Nintendo's scrapped it.

It doesn't matter how good the Wii console is, all the games are rubbish.

family bowling

Family fishing

Family execise

Family necrophilia

There is no point improving the console unless they sort the games out

Yeah, apparently Ninty are working on a new console with graphics to match PS3/60, and motion controllers/games are being created by PS3/60, so its all gonna be good in the end eh! :)

I really would like to see a Nintendo console with HD support.  It's the standard, they really do need to catch up.

What Bing popups - are you on about MS search engine?  If you're on about the textual ads, just avoid hovering your cursor above em - simple.

Information doesn't drop from the trees I'm afraid...

This site is so annoying with the stupid bing popups, they detract from me being able to read these articles...
