Nintendo reveals the Revolution's controller; we honestly don't know what to say - best check the direct feed video we've got...
As widely expected Nintendo today took the lid of secrecy surrounding the Revolution controllerâ?¦ and to be quite honest we donâ??t now what to say.
Going against the grain of every rumour (virtually) and likely to disappoint those longing for headsets or sensory capabilties, the concept backs up Nintendoâ??s new policy of â??All-Access Gamingâ? and one that the Japanese developer hopes will find appeal to a wider audience.
Nintendo breaks more than 20 years of video game history by abandoning the typical theme of the joypad, introducing an all-new freestyle unit played with just one hand.
The intuitive, pioneering interface, claims to allow players to run, jump, spin, slide, shoot, steer, accelerate, bank, dive, kick, throw and score in a way never experienced in the history of videogames. The controller is built around customisation and expansion, including a â??nunchukâ? style unit offering the enhanced gameplay that hardcore gamers demand!
â??The feeling is so natural and real, as soon as players use the controller, their minds will spin with the possibilities of how this will change gaming as we know it today,â? explains Satoru Iwata, Nintendo president. â??This is an extremely exciting innovation -- one that will thrill current players and entice new ones.â?
The controller apparently gives a lightening quick element of interaction, sensing motion, depth, positioning and targeting dictated by movement of the controller itself â?“ one particular rumor thatâ??s come true.
Incorporated technology will easily allow games from the NES, SNES, N64 and GameCube generations to be controlled, whilst third-party publishers have shown extremely positive support with the flexibility to use as many or few of the controllerâ??s features as they choose.
â??Nintendo has long been a trailblazer and this controller design reinforces that reputation,â? said Brian Farrell, president of THQ. â??We enthusiastically support Nintendoâ??s next console because we believe their approach of continual innovation is very much in line with our own strategy of creating unique and innovative games for the next generation of hardware.â?
â??What weâ??re seeing from this controller is the same thing we saw with Nintendo DS,â? said Chuck Huebner, Head of Worldwide Studios, Activision, Inc. â??Itâ??s a system thatâ??s designed with an eye on enticing new players to the video game industry, and thatâ??s something we firmly support.â?
â??Game control is essential â?“ itâ??s the area where perhaps the most game-play improvement can be made,â? said John Schappert, Sr. Vice President and General Manager of Electronic Arts Canada. â??While our portfolio represents a full array of titles across all genres, I think our sports titles might be the first to immediately take advantage of what this novel â??freehandâ?? type of control has to offer.â?
â??We were among the first publishers to see the control design in action,â? said Serge Hascoet, Chief Creative Offices of Ubisoft. â??Weâ??re excited about the new controller and are looking forward to taking advantage of its innovative aspects.â?
And just in case that, like us, you find it hard to believe - check out the direct feed trailer for the controller below...

It doesn't matter how good the Wii console is, all the games are rubbish.
family bowling
Family fishing
Family execise
Family necrophilia
There is no point improving the console unless they sort the games out

Yeah, apparently Ninty are working on a new console with graphics to match PS3/60, and motion controllers/games are being created by PS3/60, so its all gonna be good in the end eh! :)

I really would like to see a Nintendo console with HD support. It's the standard, they really do need to catch up.

Just outputting to HD won't be enough - there will have to be increases to the Wii's GPU and memory to make the visuals look sufficiently better. the Wii HD is just a pipedream invented by an anlyst that doesn't actually get that many things right...
