Just as soon as Wiis started resting on shop shelves for more than two nanoseconds, news from America suggests that the Christmas rush will once again have unprepared parents logging into eBay where they'll no doubt be paying upwards of twice the Wii's retail price in order to quiet their spoilt offspring.

Speaking to Mercury News, Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aime confirmed that Nintendo won't be able to satisfy demand for the console in the US this Christmas, adding that current stocks are typically lasting a day before they are totally depleted.

Fils-Aime was quick to point out that this wasn't due to lacklustre numbers of Wii consoles coming of the production lines. He commented that: "The issue is we went in with a curve that was aggressive, but the demand has been substantially more than that. The ability to ramp up production and to sustain it is not a switch that you flick on."

If the UK and Europe follow a similar market trend to what Fils-Aime is reporting in America (which they very probably will given the relatively similar sales figures to date) then you should probably get your hands on a Yuletide Wii asap.

A spokesperson for Nintendo UK told TVG: "Nintendo is maximising all its resources to ensure there is a good quantity of stock available this Christmas, however the phenomenal demand continues and it is possible that this demand will outstrip supply. We will be doing everything we can to supply continued levels of stock as quickly as possible."
