Nintendo's move into the media maelstrom took a step further today, with confirmation of a partnership with Dentsu on a brand new Wii channel labelled the Wii Room which will arrive in Japan on May 1st.
Depicting a virtual room where Mii's can hang out around a table and watch various videos on the nearby TV set. Nintendo's announcement video (viewed here) appears to suggest plenty of wildlife and technical documentaries at this stage.
As the video suggest the service allows you to transfer videos over to a DSi, and can also be used to purchase items from corresponding partners. Further details from the video also suggest some sort of calendar feature, which highlights activity from Nintendo's various content partners.
TVG has contacted Nintendo for a comment as to whether the service will be made available in Europe, so expect further details soon.

Surely, if that's the case, it would be the 'perfect' venue for the vitality Sensor.
I think it's more to do witht he fact that Nintendo correctly identified E3 as being largely about core games. They didn't want the Vitality sensor to get the same reaction as Wii Music did when Miyamoto unveiled it.
Either that or Nintendo's scrapped it.
