Nintendo: Friend Codes 'Not Perfect' News

Satoru Iwata confirms that Nintendo are continually looking to improve the online service for Wii and DS...

They're about as memorable as credit card numbers, and now even Nintendo boss Satoru Iwata has confirmed that the Nintendo Friend Codes are far from perfect.

Speaking at an E3 interview with GameDaily, Iwata explained that, "I don't think the current system we have with friend codes is perfect. However, if it's an online world where you can get access to anybody without any restrictions, I as a father do not feel like allowing my daughter be engaged in that kind of world."

Creating a secure environment for online gameplay remains at the forefront of Nintendo's strategy for the Wi-Fi Connection service, even if the Friend Codes system is clunky and unwieldy. That said, the Nintendo chief does reveal that the evolution of the service is ongoing:

"...we will be studying this on an ongoing basis in order to improve Nintendo's own circumstances where people can freely and safely enjoy the communications through the net."
