New touch feedback allows integrated motion sensor technology, announced by the guys who fought Sony and won...

Immersion Corporation has today unveiled its TouchSense Technology, created to develop 'next-generation' feedback on gaming platforms. Created to allow game producers to develop more immersive experiences through increased subtitles in feedback strength and duration, Immersion is pitching the technology to "...match the realism expected of next-generation video console gaming systems."

In addition to the improvements of the touch feedback system, Immersion has also confirmed that the technology can be fully integrated with motion sensor technology, that it's lighter than current feedback technologies, and that it's compatible with wireless setups.

"Next-generation realistic sound and graphics are very impressive and help extend the illusion of the game," said Vic Viegas, Immersion CEO. "But to more closely emulate the real world and provide an even more immersive experience, you also need to engage the sense of touch. Gamers like vibration feedback in their console games today and have definitely come to expect it. Our new technology supplies a dramatic improvement in the action that gamers feel. We believe it is an innovation the market deserves to have in next-generation consoles."

"Programming vibration effects with existing console toolsets is akin to the punch-card era of computing," explains Christophe Ramstein, Immersion Senior Vice President, Research and Engineering. "Immersion Studio allows developers to deal in objects and inter-relationships like any modern programming language, freeing them from tedious low-level mechanics and letting them concentrate on integrating the vibration effects with graphics and sound. They can finally focus on the art of creating even more compelling vibrations."

Today's news follows a statement from Immersion at the end of March 2006 confirming that feedback peripheral manufacturer eDimensional had licensed the technology to develop new gamepads for the PC and PlayStation2.

We'll have more news shortly...

It doesn't matter how good the Wii console is, all the games are rubbish.

family bowling

Family fishing

Family execise

Family necrophilia

There is no point improving the console unless they sort the games out

Yeah, apparently Ninty are working on a new console with graphics to match PS3/60, and motion controllers/games are being created by PS3/60, so its all gonna be good in the end eh! :)

I really would like to see a Nintendo console with HD support.  It's the standard, they really do need to catch up.

What Bing popups - are you on about MS search engine?  If you're on about the textual ads, just avoid hovering your cursor above em - simple.

Information doesn't drop from the trees I'm afraid...

Just outputting to HD won't be enough - there will have to be increases to the Wii's GPU and memory to make the visuals look sufficiently better.  the Wii HD is just a pipedream invented by an anlyst that doesn't actually get that many things right...
