While describing Nintendo's balance board peripheral as an oversized bathroom scale, Fils-Aime defends Nintendo's Wii Vitality Sensor...
It would be fair to say that the gaming community's reaction to Nintendo's Wii Vitality Sensor has been mixed at best. The peripheral, which fits over a player's index finger and monitors their breathing rate and blood flow, was revealed at E3 earlier this year.
Leave it to Nintendo of America's President and CEO, Reggie Fils-Aime to remind us of how gamers and journalists have doubted Nintendo's innovations in the past and then been proven well and truly wrong when that product eventually comes to market.
"You and I probably had a very similar conversation when we first showed the Nintendo DS," Fils-Aime told Fast Company. "'How is it going to work, why a touch screen, voice activation? I don't get it.' We probably had a similar conversation about the Wii Remote: 'How is this going to work, how is it going to work with the games that I want to play? I don't get it.' Now I'm hearing something similar for the Wii Vitality Sensor and all I can tell you is, with the game developers that we have, we will bring forth an experience that you will say, "Wow, I get it."
The software is the key factor in this according to Fils-Aime and he concedes that "it's tough to understand" the appeal of a peripheral until you can see the games supporting it.
"Until you have that software, it's tough to understand. If I told you that you would be standing on an oversized bathroom scale, and having fun doing it, you probably would have said, "Reggie, I don't get it." And yet here we are with the balance board arguably as the third largest development platform across the globe."

It doesn't matter how good the Wii console is, all the games are rubbish.
family bowling
Family fishing
Family execise
Family necrophilia
There is no point improving the console unless they sort the games out

Yeah, apparently Ninty are working on a new console with graphics to match PS3/60, and motion controllers/games are being created by PS3/60, so its all gonna be good in the end eh! :)

I really would like to see a Nintendo console with HD support. It's the standard, they really do need to catch up.

Just outputting to HD won't be enough - there will have to be increases to the Wii's GPU and memory to make the visuals look sufficiently better. the Wii HD is just a pipedream invented by an anlyst that doesn't actually get that many things right...
