Check Mii Out On The Way News

We'll be the first to admit that Nintendo's mainstream success with Wii has caught us by surprise, sure Wii was always going to appeal to non-gamers, but the continued Wii shortages seems to suggest the world just can't get enough of Nintendo's motion based future. Central to such success are the Wii Mii's, allowing Wii owners to create their own characters/profiles to play in select games such as Wii Sports.

Now perhaps we're being overly cynical or our hardcore gaming roots don't sit well with Nintendo's strategy, nevertheless the launch of Wii's latest channel fails to tickle our fancy.

Allowing other Wii owners across the globe to rate your Mii, the 'Check Mii Out' channel offers the ability to submit, exchange or browse other Mii's posted in their region or from across the globe. A Contest section of the channel further allows users to submit Mii's to represent a specific person, character or theme, with users voting to determine the Mii that best fits the challenge

"The Check Mii Out Channel lets people show off their Mii creations and vote on those created by others," says George Harrison, Nintendo of America's senior vice president of marketing and corporate communications. "It's yet another way that we're building fun, interactive communities of Wii owners without charging them extra for the privilege."

The Check Mii Out channel will be available for free from the WiiWare section of the Wii Channel Shop from November 11th.
