DICE lacking the "bright idea" that will integrate Wii U controls into the game...
Earlier this year at Nintendo's E3 conference, the CEO of EA, John Riccitiello dropped a strong hint about the possibility of developing Battlefield 3 for the Wii U; a hint that now appears to have been little more than preliminary hype as the publisher attempted to test the Wii U waters.
Speaking with the Metro, one of they key developers behind Battlefield 3, Patrick Liu has now poured some cold water over the speculation: “I think what he [EA boss John Riccitello] said was that we're looking into what we can do with the Wii U, but there is nothing planned to be honest.”
It seems DICE, the studio which develops EA's Battlefield games, does have Wii U devkits within its four walls but hasn't been able to brainstorm a way of tailoring a Battlefield 3 game specifically to the console's unique control set.
“I'm a big fan of Nintendo myself,” said Liu, “just looking at what they've done with the Wii and the Wii U… but we have to come up with something that really uses their controls. And until we get that bright idea of what to do with the new controls I don't think there's any point in making another version that's just the same as everyone else.”
We don't want to sound cynical here or anything (heaven forbid), but didn't Nintendo's Wii U E3 trailer show a gun attachment using the touchpad as an aiming scope? Seems like a good fit for Battleifield 3 is all. Perhaps there are stronger forces at work here...
