WEP security possibly opens up weaknesses in Nintendo's Wi-Fi entrance...

Screens leaked from a demonstration of the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection on the DS have endured the wrath of network-philes, with seeming confirmation that the service will use the antiquated WEP security measure.

When the PSP launched it attracted similar criticism for the move which was later amended with a firmware upgrade. Although the risk to DS owners remains small, such weaknesses can provide a portal for would-be hackers to distribute viruses and generally play amok.

TVG contacted Nintendo for a comment but never received a reply on the subject; let’s just hope Nintendo’s importance on accessibility doesn’t make it too easy for those with less considerate intentions.
