Japanese gamers can't get enough of the Nintendo DS as price doubles...

With PSP sales across Japan overtaking the Nintendo DS for the first time in absolute yonks last week shortages of Nintendo's handheld have had a profound impact on the price. Generally retailing for 15,000 yen (£74), certain retailers across the Akihabara district have been forced to double the price of the highly sought after handheld to 30,000 yen (£148).

Nintendo has yet to officially comment on the shortages and as of yet it's unknown when stocks will be replenished; in the meantime however Sony has enjoyed the knock-on effect with a surge in PSP sales - now if only it had the games to go with it.
