DS hysteria likely to continue across Japan following the launch of DSi...

It seems the DS truly is a money-making machine for Nintendo.  Just days after the November 1st Japanese launch of the DSi, Nintendo has celebrated the initial stock of 170,779 units selling out completely.

Queues formed outside virtually every outlet selling the handheld, as Japanese consumers clamoured to gobble up the DSi with its larger screens, inbuilt camera and enhanced online functionalities.

We'll have a little while to wait before the pandemonium spreads to Europe.  Nintendo is currently sticking to a rather vague Spring 2009 timeline, although if the hysteria continues across Japan we'd expect this to slip.
