The two year record held by the PSP is smashed by Nintendo's own handheld...
Having held onto the record for the highest weekly hardware sales in the UK since it launched in September 2005, the PSP's 185,000 unit strong figure has been smashed by portable console 'rival', Nintendo DS.
News of the record, which saw over 191,000 Nintendo DS units sold across the UK last week, was confirmed by Nintendo to UK trade publication, MCV. In a statement to the publication, Nintendo representatives said:
"Momentum has been increasing on DS sales and to achieve the highest weekly sales figure ever in the history of the games market is fantastic."
The Nintendo DS Lite first launched across Europe in June 2006 where it sold over 200,000 units in ten days. The DS has now sold over 50 million units around the world since its 2004 launch in Japan.
