Nintendo confirms that over six million DS systems have been sold across Europe since launch...

It's been a good day for Nintendo in Europe today; having announced the price and launch date for Wii in the territory, the company has also confirmed that the number of DS handhelds sold in Europe since its release has topped six million.

The portable platform went on sale in Europe back in March 2005, and since then 44% of people buying the DS were women, with the Touch Generations! title Nintendogs selling over four million copies so far.

Laurent Fischer, European Marketing Director for Nintendo commented, "Nintendo has always sought to innovate and produce games and consoles that appeal to everyone irrespective of age or experience. The Nintendo DS has done just this and been a phenomenal success, along with the Touch! Generation range that has expanded the gaming audience by providing something for everyone no matter who they are"
