An impressive 500,000 copies sold in the first month, but far short of the Japanese figure...

Nintendo of America has today confirmed sales of 500,000 units in the first month since New Super Mario Bros launched across the territory, approximately 20 copies every minute according to the big N (though TVG's calculations make it closer to 12 a minute).

Whilst an impressive statistic in its own right, and something that NoA can be proud of, it does in fact get dwarfed by five day figures from Japan for the game, which saw over 900,000 copies sold (approximately an astonishing 125 copies a minute, or two every second).

New Super Mario Bros. is set to launch in Europe on June 30th, the last of the major territories to receive the game, but at least now we have a target to beat!
