The final chapter of Myst brings down the curtains for its developer...
As development concludes on the final chapter within the legendary Myst series, it has become apparent that the developer behind the series is currently in the process of laying off its employees.
An update on Ryan Warzecha's blog reads like Cyan Worlds final hour, describing the employees last supper as presumably the developer faced problems green lighting new projects that werenâ??t based around its baffling successful adventure series.
Despite Mystâ??s success (reported to have sold over 12 million copies), Cyan Worlds have faced financial difficulties in the past and came close to closure during the development of Uru: Ages Beyond Myst in 2003. Unlike then however Cyan Worlds have been unable to find financial backing this time around for new projects, a situation staff were informed about back in August.
With Myst V: End of Ages slated for release towards the end of the month, it looks as though this truly will be the end of an adventure series that broke the traditional boundaries of what a videogame is.
