Unlike Microsoft, Sony reveals that it's currently not banning players for using the Javelin exploit in Modern Warfare 2...
Sony Computer Entertainment Europe has revealed that it's currently not banning players of Modern Warfare 2 from PSN for using the Javelin exploit in Infinity Ward's Modern Warfare 2, despite threats to the contrary from Microsoft yesterday evening.
A spokesperson for SCEE told TVG that, according to the company's customer service department, banning players for exploiting a glitch is "not something we do". Microsoft, on the other hand, has threatened suspensions from its Xbox Live service for players who exploit the glitch.
"While IW works on getting the MW2 glitch fixed, people we catch using it will receive suspensions from LIVE. Play fair everyone," Tweeted Stephen Toulouse, Microsoft's Director of Xbox Live Policy and Enforcement.
The glitch can be activated by selecting the Javelin rocket launcher (unlocked at level 50 in the multiplayer), then holding a Semtex grenade by pressing the right bumper button (without releasing the explosive), and then simultaneously pressing Y or triangle to re-select the Javelin.
Any player who does this (not that we're suggest you should, particularly if you're on Xbox Live), will then turn into a walking bomb. Once that player is killed, they'll release the explosive power of a Javelin rocket, effectively killing any other players in the vicinity (check out the vid below to see it in action).
Infinity Ward is already hard at work on a fix for the glitch. The studio's Creative Strategist, Robert Bowling Tweeted this last night: "Javelin Glitch fix currently in test. Once it's cleared, we'll be urging it through Microsoft & Sony certification as fast as possible."
