MMO Style Subscriptions Coming To Call of Duty??? News
An online survey suggests that an MMO style subscription service could feature in future CoD titles...

An online survey, currently being circulated across the web, seems to suggest that Activision is considering an MMO style subscription service for upcoming Call of Duty titles.
The survey (spotted by Destructoid), lists a number of additional services for the game that players could purchase via subscription based models (monthly, quarterly, and annually) or as bundled content with a copy of the game at an added cost.
Six possible models appear to be listed in the questionnaire, varying in price and services from a $10 (£6) annual fee to a $150 ($92) bundled copy of the game. In return, Activision is offering everything from discounts on DLC and weapon customisation at the cheaper end of the scale, to a War Room for strategising and access to exclusive tournaments at the higher rates (images can be found through the link).
All of these extras are optional, meaning that gamers will still be able to purchase standard retail copies of the game without a subscription based service etc. Additionally, all of the added content that Activision is hinting at is for CoD's multiplayer componenet at this stage.
Even if the questionnaire is legitimate then it's still by no means confirmation that Activision would ever launch such a service - publishers release surveys like this all the time for market research purposes simply to gauge consumer reactions.
Nonetheless, early indications are that Activision will be selling Modern Warfare 2 at a higher RRP than other triple A games in the UK, with listings on various online retailers showing £54.99 RRPs for the game's standard edition. In other words, we're certainly not surprised that the publisher is finding ever more creative ways to encourage gamers pay extra money for CoD.
