Following the controversy surrounding Infinity Ward's IWNet reveal, Robert Bowling has now spoken out in defence of the service...
Roughly four days have passed since IWNet's zero hour - when the matchmaking service for Modern Warfare 2 on PC was revealed by Infinity Ward's sounding board, Robert Bowling - and now he's spoken out on his blog in defence of the service.
"Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is actually the biggest investment Infinity Ward has ever made into the PC version of our games," insisted Bowling in the post. "It's also the most feature-rich PC version we've ever made. IWNET takes the benefits of dedicated servers and allows them to be utilised and accessed by every player, out of the box, while removing the barrier to entry for players unaware of how to maintain a server on their own."
Bullet pointed improvements to the service, according to Bowling, are the ability to make the online game more accessible with a matchmaking service while still allowing clans to host private matches, thereby retaining the benefits of a dedicated server.
There's also a new party system and friends list under IWNet, which "makes setting up scrims or games with friends easier and hassle free." One final benefit of IWNet is that it allows Infinity Ward to police the servers so that admins don't have to do it themselves.
"Modern Warfare 2 on PC allows us to control the quality of the game much more than ever before as well as utilizing the VAC (Valve-Anti-Cheat) system to keep games clean of hackers and cheaters," said Bowling.
Is IWNet a good solution for the Modern Warfare PC community? Let us know your thoughts in the comments...

and anom 342, iw ant to know where u get ur games from lol and in my opinion, games on the PC are awful...well, most anyway, online ALWAYS lags (especialy with shooters) dno if thats just me like lol, and the graphics can never be very good on a typical computer which means you have to buy a monolith sized computer.
consoles were designed to play agmes, PC's wernt, they were designed at first for communication, and now for doing work and accessing the internet, thats where they should stay in my opinion. the only games i get for PC is RTS games cause they are awful on consoles (halo wars and universe at war are good examples)
and console stuff being out of date, im sorry but what computer uses blu-ray? somehow i think the PS3 had an advantage over the computer then...ooo lord, i praised the PS3 o.O christ its early lol

Anonymous who posted Tues 17th 23:08 your talking directly out of your arse.
PC's are in no way becoming like a Dreamcast. Have you ever heard of World of Warcraft ? Have you heard of PhysX?Consoles can in no way keep up with things like this. Yes you do need to pay out for a good PC but what you seem to overlook is that PC games cost about £15 -£20 less than console games.
Any game that runs both on console and on PC is 99% of the time better on PC. Graphics wise and they often have more content. A good example being Assassins Creed or more recently Dragon Age.
Consoles run on hardware that is a long way out of date. And dont forget PS3's and 360 run off three Pentium 4 processors. Sound familiar? thats right. PC hardware you moron.
Go buy yourself a clue.

lol no 2 8800 gts cards arnt as powerfull as 2 ps3's youve been taking too many drugs for far too long seriously anyone stupid enough to think pc's are where it started are just idiots (sure you pc builders were playing games like sonic or mario while consoles have been around since the 70's), so carry on saying pc's are where it started cause it diddnt END OF
main stream 3d gaming on pc's diddnt realy start till the late 90's sure you had doom but consoles soon cought up so no matter how much pc gamers claim the pc to be better consoles are better overall as they present better value over time compare that to a pc that you constantly have to upgrade like when vista came out and you had to get a DX10 gfx card now you need a DX11 card (unfortunatly there was hardly any games that actually utilised DX10 features most games were and still are DX9c based so what makes you think there all going to utilise DX11).
it must be great being a pc nerd but to be honest your argument realy is quite stale and the only ones who realy care are other pc gamers who know the truth that soon pc games will soon be like the dreamcast games few and far between (mainly fan made games)
