Shigeru Miyamoto working on a Wii title for the entire family to enjoy during cost-cutting times...

Although Nintendo is hard at work on new Mario and Zelda titles, it seems the next big thing to emerge from the mind of Shigeru Miyamoto will follow in a similar line to recent titles such as Wii Sports, Wii Fit and Wii Music.

In an interview with MercuryNews, Miyamoto-san's beliefs about rival motion controllers, fears over the Vitality Sensor and concerns surrounding downloadable content have been widely reported; however, it's his thoughts on the recession that piqued our interest.

"Well, obviously, the recession is bad for everybody and it does have impact in certain areas," Miyamoto said.  "But one of the things we look at when we look at entertainment is, if you want something bad enough, you're going to save your money for it, right? And if you're flush with cash but you don't want something, you're not going to use that cash."

We'd urge Miyamoto to take note of the age-old adage about a fool and his money at this stage, but what do we know.

"We're really just concentrating on creating something that people want. I think that's one of Nintendo's strong points, that ability to focus on that next challenge," Miyamoto added.

So what does this mean for Miyamoto's next Wii title?

"... [we're] thinking of how a family spends their budgeted entertainment money. Rather than a dad going out and buying something that he wants, creating something that we can present to them as something the whole family will use."

So something that we all want, something that will bring the family together in tough financial times, something that is cost effective and won't require an expensive peripheral to work, perhaps?
