Final Fantasy Creator Mentions New Title News

Hironobu Sakaguchi has gone a little quiet since Cry-On was quietly cancelled late last year.  However a cryptic blog update (spotted by RPGSite) has shed light on Mistwalker and suggested a new title is in the pipeline:

"Am I an "idle man", I wonder? (^^;
Well, I am just trying to pastime...
I am working hard on a new project.
Now we are being rushed into the "finishing" stage.
No matter what, I will make it really good.... "

TVG had the fortune to speak with Hironobu Sakaguchi at an Anime event in Paris back in 2007, in which the acclaimed director mentioned a new project that would fuse MMO and traditional RPG mechanics, along with the rumoured Blue Dragon sequel.

"Yes, I would like to try that," Sakauguchi-san replied when asked whether the rumoured project would bring MMO and RPG gameplay mechanics.

When asked whether this was regarding the now cancelled Cry On, Sakaguchi-san claimed, "It will be a different game."

When TVG asked him about Blue Dragon 2, Sakaguchi-san remained equally vague:

"At this time, I cannot really say but this October perhaps I will be able to tell you. I'm thinking of Blue Dragon 2 in a different way than before - so maybe you will be getting some news that perhaps you won't be expecting."

Naturally, October 2007 came and went without the merest hint of what Mistwalker were up to.  Whether or not today's update surrounds this mythical RPG/MMO crossover that he mentioned or Blue Dragon 2 remains to be seen.
