Io Interactive has announced its latest title Mini Ninjas, which is due for release at the tail end of 2009...

Danish outfit Io Interactive, which has the Hitman games and Freedom Fighters amongst its list of previous accolades, has announced its latest project Mini Ninjas. The title is due for release in autumn 2009 for the PS3, Xbox 360, Wii, DS, and PC.

Mini Ninjas follows the story of Hiro, a mini ninja who's on a quest to restore a world that's been sent into darkness by a band of evil samurai. Using an array of powerful Kuji magic and special skills, Hiro must battle through waves of evildoers into the game's ultimate conclusion against the Evil Samurai Warlord in his Fortress of Doom.

Presented in stylised cel-shaded visuals, Mini Ninjas sits alongside one other Ninja game with a similar graphical presentation set for release in 2009: Afro Samurai. Mini Ninjas doesn't seem to be quite as violent though, displaying a much more family friendly cartoon approach to its gameplay.

"Mini Ninjas represents a truly special game for us," said Niels Jørgensen, General Manager of Io Interactive. "The whole team is very excited about it, because it is unique in so many ways. From the art style to the characters and the depth of the game - Mini Ninjas has that exceptional appeal, which is sure to keep both young and old very entertained."

You may be waiting a while then unfortunately, as Eidos hasn't indicated that a PSP version will be released. It's Xbox 360, PS3, PC, Wii, and DS at the moment.
