Leipzig's Games Convention brand may be heading over to North America, according to Leipzig Messe's CEO...
In a "Final Report" on the success of this year's Games Convention, Leipzig Messe's CEO Wolfgang Marzin has suggested that the convention centre intends to expand its Games Convention brand into North America.
"The concept is flexible and the network of the global games industry permits us to be active at different locations," said Marzin. "After the Southeast Asian Games Convention, we are now focusing on the North American market."
Leipzig Messe GmbH has already expanded the brand to the far-east with GC Asia in Singapore last year. The Games Convention will return there this year between 18th and 20th September.
Marzin also countered reports that the GC may be moving to Cologne next year with figures from a poll of convention attendees. According to the final report, only 10% of exhibitors answered "no" to the question "Do you think there should be a GC in Leipzig in 2009?"
Of course, this doesn't mean that 90% of exhibitors said "yes" and if the 10% of exhibitors who said "no" included the likes of Microsoft, Sony, EA, and Activision, then the proposed move to Cologne seems likely.
