Miami Vice Review

A great licence but the real worry is that it comes from masters of budget code Davliex, who we must say have created some massive sellers but the first concern is when you look at the rather â??shadyâ?? looking box art. Yes, the heroes of the game, Tubbs and Crockett, are resplendent in the gear that made them the sharp dudes of the 80s but it just lacks the kind of polish you would expect. The word â??cheapâ?? keeps coming up! Afraid it does not get much better with the game as it loads in and give you a momentary shock! Although the team might be going for a retro look, the palette they have used looks more akin to the 60s flower power period and tacky use of colours and some badly drawn sets make you wonder what the quality control is like at Davilex. OK, its £14:99 but youâ??d expect more.

The real problem posed is that you canâ??t really make sensible comments once you have seen Crockett and Tubbs in action and you can select either of them but who cares at this early point. Although Tubbs might be ponderous in his physical moves but better at kicking doors down and Crocket faster on his feet, it does not make that much difference when playing this rather pedestrian, some would say overthetop, presentation, especially when it is down to shooting a baddie. If you are rubbish at shooting it doesnâ??t matter what you are wearing or who you are!?

The animation and cast, although large, move like bad wooden actors and their facial expression are comical!. (Hey, perhaps they are recreating the bad acting as well!)

Least we forget to say; Miami Vice is billed as a 3rd person operated game with free roaming and numerous encounters and missions â?“ 16 of them. The player can embark on dangerous raids and fast-moving gunfights in a bid to bring justice to nightclubs and warehouses of Miami. Are they being serious? Well in theory yes, but in practice it is hard to have any enthusiasm for this game. The Jan Hammer sound track still sounds as good as it was originally but sadly Miami Vice is well past its sell by date!

Seriously we remember enjoying the Commodore64 version far more then thisâ?¦
