No not movie footage of Metroid Prime but whispers that a big-budget movie is on the way...

It seems that a videogame franchise can’t go about its daily business these days without talk of movie adaptations; the latest, none other then Nintendo’s Metroid.

Variety claims that Zide/Perry Entertainment has acquired the feature rights to the franchise; the pair have previously worked on American Pie 1&2 and Final Destination.

Currently no writers or director have been attached to the project, however producers Warren Zide and Craig Perry are currently searching for the right people.

It’s claimed that the story will stay faithfully close to the plot offered by the games; set in a once peaceful galaxy, which has its prosperity shattered when a startling discovery is made. On a routine scanning operation, a surveillance crew discover a new airborne life form - the Metroid. Able to engulf other living beings, feed from their energy and multiple at a deadly pace; a female bounty hunter going by the name of Sarus Arran is dispatched by the Galactic Federation to eliminate the threat. However she soon realises a greater threat; that Space Pirates have captured a Metroid and are planning to build an unstoppable army from the Metroid species.

Hopefully the franchise will be given the integrity it deserves if the project does get green lighted; we’ve already seen one classic Nintendo franchise butchered and we certainly don’t want to see another go the same way.

We’ll have more information on this as it becomes available.
