4A Games is working on an FPS adaptation of Dmitry Glukhovsky's 2002 novel, Metro 2033...

THQ has announced that its publishing a new FPS being developed by the Ukrainian based studio, 4A Games. The shooter, which is titled Metro 2033 and is based on a 2002 novel of the same name by Dmitry Glukhovsky, is due to surface in early 2010 on Xbox 360 and PC.

The game's sci-fi storyline is based in Moscow and set in the wake of a nuclear holocaust in 2013, where the holocaust's survivors now live beneath a decimated cityscape in the city's subway systems thirty years later.

As the story's protagonist, Artyom, players must battle mutated enemies as they travel to the catacombs beneath the city's subway system and back to the earth's surface to warn the holocaust's survivors of an impending threat to mankind.

"Metro 2033 will plunge gamers into a terrifying vision of the future," said Richard Williams, Vice-President of Global Brand Management, THQ. "4A Games have worked closely with Dmitry Glukhovsky to deliver a unique game world, a compelling, cinematic story and an incredible, atmospheric experience to rival anything in the category."

Take a look at the game's first trailer here. We're travelling to Russia early next month where we'll have the opportunity to check the game out first hand, and we'll be reporting back as soon as THQ will let us.

Yeah, certainly not excellent graphics judging by what we saw in Moscow, but decent enough in places at least. If you like the post-apocalyptic theme though, Metro 2033 will definitely be your type of game.

I hope it will be a very good game and I can't wait to play it. It's just so awesome, judging by what I heard (read). Great scenario, story, my fav. post- apocalypse style coupled with good (excellent?) graphics. Sounds like a recipe for a great game to me
