Metal Gear Solid 4, Metal Gear Acid 2 and Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence, all Sony bound...

The future of the Metal Gear franchise has all been made clearer today as Konami and their latest internal development studio, none other than Hideo Kojima's own Kojama Productions, outlined the forthcoming titles from the MGS universe.

Although previously announced, top billing was set for Metal Gear Solid 4 for the next-gen PlayStation3, which will be set after the events of MGS2: Sons of Liberty and takes in the continuing storythreads of Solid Snake, Meryl, Ocelot, and Otagon with Kojima-san describing the concept of the game as being 'nowhere to hide', with the game also set to include an online Battle Mode presumably the result of the previously talked about Metal Gear Online.

Elsewhere the PSP will also get a sequel to Metal Gear Acid, tentitively called (wait for it) Metal Gear Acid 2 with the PlayStation2 set for the ultimate MGS collection in Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence, which will include the first two MSX Metal Gear titles (the second of which has never been released in the U.S. in any form) and Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater. In addition to the compilation, Subsistence will also include an eight-person online multiplayer mode (Which had previously been rumoured) and several new undisclosed game modes.

Kojima-san involvement within the Metal Gear franchise had been doubtful after the release of MGS3: Snake Eater, however it's believed that pressure from his team and fans led to the decision to continue working on the franchise as a lead designer. Once again MGS4 was billed as "...there's nowhere left to hide...", suggesting that the fourth title in the franchise will eschew the stealth mechanics and focus on an entirely new angle.

Sadly Kojima-san confirmed that we'll have to wait until E3'06 before seeing Metal Gear Solid 4 in action...

As much as I'd like to play this on the Xbox 360 I won't put too much trust in these until I see an official announcement. Even still, judging by what he said in the article, they could simply put it on the PC.

People that are saying he would not put it on the Xbox should realize that Metal Gear Solid 2 was on the Xbox. I wouldn't rule it out completely. Metal Gear Solid and Metal Gear Solid 2 were both on the PC however.
