After sending the online world into a frenzy, Konami confirms 'A Next Metal Gear Is' part of a series of games for iPhone/iPod Touch...

Oh dear, this isn't quite what we had in mind.  After sending the rumour and speculation mill into overdrive, Konami has today confirmed that the next Metal Gear will in fact be for Apple's iPhone/iPod Touch, and won't be the often rumoured Xbox 360 version of MGS4.

The game, Metal Gear Solid Touch, forms a small raft of titles currently in development by Konami for the Apple platform, including versions of Silent Hill, Dance Dance Revolution, and Frogger.  All are expected to launch during the early part of 2009.

Despite both Frogger and DDR looking like faithful hand-held interpretations of their home console counterparts, Metal Gear and especially Silent Hill: The Escape deviate somewhat – the latter described as a first-person shooter...

“These are Konami’s first wave of titles for the exciting new devices, and allow us to bring new elements to portable gaming. We welcome the iPhone and iPod Touch to our product line-up and look forward to these initial games,” commented Florian Stronk, Head of Mobile Business Department at Konami Digital Entertainment GmbH.

Further details are expected in the coming weeks, with Konami yet to launch North American and European portals for their 'Konami Touch' range.

As much as I'd like to play this on the Xbox 360 I won't put too much trust in these until I see an official announcement. Even still, judging by what he said in the article, they could simply put it on the PC.

People that are saying he would not put it on the Xbox should realize that Metal Gear Solid 2 was on the Xbox. I wouldn't rule it out completely. Metal Gear Solid and Metal Gear Solid 2 were both on the PC however.

Forget the fact it's an April Fool's prank - that vid is awesome and I'd like a Campbell expansion pack right now.
