Medal of Honor may seem like any other First Person Shooter at first, but once you get INTO this game, you really start to pick it apart FROM the competition.

For starters, this game has a really original, and unique theme to it. Although the World War II theme seems like a no-brainer setting, I can’t think of too many games, if any, that have WWII as the main theme for the game. This game looks like a polygonal, fully interactive Saving Private Ryan.

The gameplay in this game is truly spectacular. Not very often in most other first person shooters, will you be asking yourself which path seems right and which approach you should use in order to avoid too much disturbance from the NAZI enemy. Although sometimes you may wonder why the AI is not quite up there, (some gaurds hear the pin of a grenade drop but miss the sound of a gun firing) they still do a good job of keeping you emersed in the whole experience.

The Eye-Candy for this game is not anything to write home about, but are very well done. Although you do see a lot of pop-up, and very grainy textures ruin the graphics and really bring down the graphics bar. The frame-rate does an awesome job of staying steady, especially when there is an explosion and 2 characters running at you, and it never misses a beat. As for the game’s audio performance, this is a section done very well. Everything from the way the guns fire, to the way the enemies take a round to the chest, everything is done with complete authenticity.

Don’t mistake this game for an espionage adventure though. Although your main objective is infiltration, you use much more brawn then brains while playing. Think of it like GoldenEye and Mission Impossible fused together with a story reminiscent to Saving Private Ryan, and you’ll get an idea of how Medal of Honor plays. Sometimes this game seems a little stupid, almost dummied down, and although I don’t want to say it, it does become a little ‘Quake’ like. But all those brainless areas are overshadowed when you are disguised as an enemy soldier and trying to way-lay past the gaurds. This game is worth it just for those elements alone.(I never can name bad things about this game without coming back with good ones can I?)

We have touched a lot on most of the games good parts and aside from the graphics, let us touch on some of the bad. For starters, some of the enemy’s reactions are not very smart. Although they do try to trap you and flush you out from all corners, sometimes you feel like you’re at target practice! I mean, does it really have to take that long for the enemy to pull the trigger? Sure, I can see that they did this to push the overall fun value higher, sometimes it can detract from gameplay.

In my opinion, this is the PlayStation’s answer to GoldenEye. And although I am probably gonna get flooded with hate mail for saying this, but I really do think that you will enjoy this game more than the Bond game on the N64. Hey, Bond still has a better Multi-Player mode than Medal of Honor by far
