Medal Of Honor looks set to join the elite in the FPS genre.
When you think of the First Person Shooter genre on the Nintendo64, the one game that automatically springs to mind is Goldeneye-007. (And for good Reason!) Now, think of the PlayStation, sure it has some of the most amazing Third Person adventure games ever made, (Metal Gear Solid and Resident Evil 3 to name a couple) but when you look towards it’s First Person genre, it has almost nothing that contends with the N64. Thankfully, Dreamworks Interactive and Electronic Arts are planning to release a First Person shooter, titled Medal Of Honor, that will not only contend with the N64’s Goldeneye, but try to surpass it in every aspect. This is obviously an incredible feat to pull off, seeing as how Goldeneye has set a new standard from which all other Shooters will be judged. With all this said, one must look to what Medal Of Honor offers as opposed to Goldeneye, and thankfully for PlayStation owners, Medal Of Honor offers everything you could ask for, and then some!

The game is set during World War II, with you taking the role as newly recruited Strategic Services Operative sent in on a mission of infiltration, rescue or sabotage while disposing of Nazi enemies as silently as possible. The time frame set for the game is just prior to the memorable D-Day Invasion, and let me tell ya, this game is as historically accurate as one of those text books you get in History class!(Hey! Come back, I meant it in a fun way!) Heck, you could probably study for your tests just by playing this game. Don’t think for a second that Medal Of Honor is one of those games where kill every thing in sight is key, although you have twelve authentic WWII weapons at your disposal, you will need to be silent, and try to avoid encounters with enemy scum as best as possible.

Attention to this game is simply stunning, and although not up to par with games like Metal Gear Solid, the rest of the competition out there is a far cry behind this game. Enemy soldiers have authentic uniforms, speak their respective language, wear distinctive Medals appropriate for their class, and best of all, the DO NOT follow a restricted AI pattern, meaning they can be patrolling a certain route this time, and the next time will be seen somewhere else in the level. This kind of depth really makes this game stand out above most others in it’s genre.

The graphics and sound in this game are excellent. Grainy textures, and break-up in polygons are few and far between and from the screens and movies we have seen so far, this game looks to run at a super slick 30frames per second. The sound in this game really do everything it can to emerge you into the experience, and although there are some catchy tunes in the game, the thing that will really win you over are the AWE inspiring sound effects. You’ll hear everything from the gaurds communicating as they hunt you down, you’ll hear that unique whizz as the bullets fly and hit the wall with a muffled ‘POOF’.

The most impressive part of this game is the inclusion of a Multi Player mode that is sure to set the replay value way high up there. Although it is very doubtful that it can surpass Goldeneye in the Multi Player option, the rest of the game seems to be set to give it a run for it’s money. Look for a review of this game real soon! ‘Till then, MOTCHEN SIE MEINEN AFFEN BERUHREN? Or something like that...
