They're working on something, but Rockstar Games aren't quite ready to talk about what the Toronto studio is up to, just yet...

After a gap of five years, Max Payne is back...well, on the silver screen at least. But whilst Mark 'Marky Mark' Wahlberg steps into the role of the tortured cop for the upcoming feature, the future of the character's videogame career continues to remain uncertain.

Original developer, Finnish outfit Remedy Entertainment, continues to be working hard on the enigmatic Alan Wake, though continued online speculation about a Max Payne 3 continues to emerge every few months. The title's development was first announced by Take Two Interactive four years ago, but has gone below radar.

The latest speculation on the third instalment comes from the latest issue of EGM in the US, where regular rumourmonger Quartermann has suggested that Rockstar Toronto has taken the reins of Payne.

TVG contacted Rockstar Games about the article, with representatives stating "we don't comment on rumour or speculation".

Yeah they did - but 3D Realms don't have any interest in Max Payne anymore, Rockstar owns the IP.
