Max Payne 3 will be released on PS3, Xbox 360, and PC this coming winter...
The third instalment in the Max Payne series has been announced by Rockstar. Set for launch towards the tail-end of 2009, Max Payne 3 will be released on the Xbox 360, PS3, and PC.
The title is currently in development at Rockstar Toronto, while the splash page for the game shows a more unkempt and physically battered Max Payne than we've become used to in the previous two games.
Max is a retired cop in this third game's storyline, although Rockstar informs us that the usual elements of "corruption, turmoil and intense violence" will feature in the plot - some things never change in the film noir styled shooter.
"We're starting a new chapter of Max's life with this game," said Sam Houser, Founder of Rockstar Games. "This is Max as we've never seen him before, a few years older, more world-weary and cynical than ever. We experience the downward spiral of his life after the events of Max Payne 2 and witness his last chance for salvation."
Having left his post of Detective in the NYPD, Max has now moved out of New York altogether and is seemingly being double-crossed by assailants unknown. Key the usual fight for survival, justice, and the truth.

Yeah they did - but 3D Realms don't have any interest in Max Payne anymore, Rockstar owns the IP.
