Take-Two Interactive delays Max Payne 3 again, this time into vague and murky waters...
Remember that Russian roulette of game delays that Take-Two Interactive hinted towards in its previous, Q1 2010 financials? The mysterious delay that would see a single title from a list of Mafia II, LA Noire, Max Payne 3, and Civilization V being pushed into the company’s fiscal 2011, even though Take-Two wouldn’t reveal which one?
Well, it turns out that game was Max Payne 3, as Take-Two has now announced via its Q2 2010 financials that the title has been banished from its previously slated Q4 2010 release window, which runs between August and October of this year. What’s worse is that Take-Two won’t even reveal where it’s gone!
When Strauss Zelnick, Take-Two’s Chairman was asked by an analyst during a post-earnings conference call, “With Max Payne 3 you said it's moving out of fiscal 2010, you did not put it into fiscal 2011 but that's understood I assume...”, Zelnick vaguely responded:
“No, Max Payne 3 we haven't announced a release date just to be clear.”
In other words, it’s starting to look suspiciously like Rockstar Vancouver might be going back to the drawing board on Max Payne 3. We’ll keep you updated as soon as we know more...
