Preview details spill out following first screenshots in years...
A slew of new details about Max Payne 3 have emerged following the release of two new screens for the game last week. Little had been heard of the title for over a year prior to the release of the screenshots on Thursday.
According to a preview in the latest issue of Edge (scanned by Rockstarspy) original Max Payne actor James McCaffrey returns to voice the eponymous hero, who finds himself down on his luck in Sao Paulo eight years after the events of the previous game. A dishevelled, alcoholic Max is working as a gun-for-hire in the Brazillian city, but it sounds as though the game will probably take in other environments as well, charting Max’s exit from the NYPD and descent into his current state.
“We’re always playing with time in the story,” revealed Max Payne 3 Art Director Rob Nelson. “We move backwards and forwards; we use really aggressive editing. It’s unlike anything we’ve done in any of our games before.”
Max’s signature slow-motion Bullet Time moves return alongside a new cover system and destructible scenery. Hundreds of customised animations have been created to lend a natural feel to character movement and enemy reactions. Development duties have been split across four Rockstar studios - Vancouver, Toronto, London, and New England.
“We have a lot of talented people across all our studios,” explained Rob Nelson, “and this just means we can bring the right people in for a specific task when needed – and it gives the games a consistent level of quality and an approach that’s recognisably Rockstar.”
No release date has been announced for Max Payne 3.
